John Krouse is a sixty-six year old retiree who raised two sons by himself. He is a former director of Pace-Training and Evaluation Center and has been active in his retirement, offering his help to the WV Walks campaign with a special interest in the faith-based segment of the program.

WHY DO YOU WALK?
I have high blood pressure and am a borderline diabetic. Walking dramatically improves both conditions.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WALKING?
Walking is a very peaceful experience and it centers me.

WHAT IS YOUR TOUGHEST OBSTACLE TO WALKING?
My toughest obstacle is getting started. I am a procrastinator when it comes to walking.

WHAT IS YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR NEW WALKERS?
I recommend that people find a good friend to walk with. It is helpful to have a buddy to make the walk more enjoyable.

WHAT IS THE COOLEST BENEFIT OF WALKING?
Walking is so peaceful. It is an escape from the drudgery of chores.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SURPRISE ABOUT WALKING?
The biggest surprise for me was how much it helps my blood pressure and diabetes.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I should walk more in order to reap even greater benefits. The more you put into walking, the more you get out of it.
